To A New Year?
December 23, 2009
Eye strain for research. Done. A What I’ve learned this semester in Fashion Journalism:
Karl Lagerfeld needs to brush his hair
Rachel Comey
Opening Ceremony
Rochas
Jumpsuits
Bodysuits
Tom Ford for Gucci
House of Harlow 1960
what a lookbook is.
BAH, don’t make fun of me.
All I know is, I like what I like and I’m sold to ad campaigns with undersaturated photography. But don’t take that seriously. I’ve got other things on the mind besides channelling through RTW lines and Refinery29.
New Year, bring me brainstorm of ideas in
Web design
Lighting
Production
Western History?
1000 Hugs to Pinkyotto and color!
December 11, 2009
So, wrapping up my first winter experience in NYC, I’d like to give a shout out to that cute Japanese lady at pinkyotto on E.9th. I wanted everything in the store but at least walked away with a knit black hat with a sequined ribbon to go ice skating with. She wanted me to try on a bunch of dresses, but I said I would come back and she told me to tell her how ice skating went.
There is a feminine silhouette in all of their lines, as the creative director, Ryo Liu finds affordable, girly pieces that also come in style. It’s a win win. I have to go back!
Apart from that, I regained artistic consciousness by visiting the MoMa earlier this week. What perfect timing, that my favorite movement, Bauhaus was in full view. Apart from the over-crowed rooms that built me with such anxiety, I managed to squeeze by a Josef Albers workshop understanding interaction of color. Reminds me of taking 2D/3D at CCA.. it was actually more therapeutic than at school, mind you.
Turrbotax, a bass-centric monthly in Brooklyn was a hit, as special guest Dave Q ran some fine dubness at The Cove last Thursday.
First Thursdays of the month, and free asahi!! AND it’s free!
Apart from reading how much fun I had in the East coast, I wanna leave you this rad track from Instra:mental that’s been playing on loop today:
The shoe that killed me
December 11, 2009
I did dream of these shoes for a good hour, woke up and searched online, then went to the actual store in New York and purchased them.
Please forgive me, mother. They were calling out to me.

Since New York being the only store in the U.S to carry these rousing one of a kind London-based shoes, I couldn’t help but try one the most eccentric pair:
“S-Bar” is a heel with a plastic prism-like heel and leather cuff that wraps around your lower leg. (If you are taller than 5′0 feet) Viet and my million other gays would force me into these, most likely. Surprisingly comfortable, though, I could tell you I wouldn’t be caught in these.
Buyer’s remorse has taken over until I get these girls out to California where it’s not 32 degrees. You hear me? It’s frighteningly chilling to the bone in NY!

Trying to keep away from too much of wwd, a slight anxiety that tends to drain my energy away, I have stumbled upon a sight for sore eyes: And all I have to say is Teller. And you see this face. And suddenly I love fashion again. Phew!

There’s something about Juergen Teller for Marc Jacob’s pale, desaturated and arbitrary photos that give me hope that there is a gap between fine art and commercial photography.
This feeling’s a good omen. It’s a’callin’ out.
Thanks, Juergen Teller.

Feels like January
November 2, 2009
It’s when you can’t feel your toes because you wear patent leather flats to the park at night. Haven’t been back in months, but I’ve caught up with some Kodak med-format and some portraits of friend Armando.
Gee, fashion on the mind ten hours a day, it’s tiring. (I’m taking a fashion journalism class) Don’t particularly like the fashion world besides its final product.
A list of things I don’t like about fashion:
1. Snobby rich women
Esp. who give you the death stare at Saks Fifth in NY. The only audience who can afford lines “for the everyday woman”, just seems out of touch and
2. Blackface (see French Vogue editorial with Lara Stone and ANTP) Modern racism and uncomfortable way to piss people off.
(to be continued)….
